At its peak in the 1880’s it had around 2,500 inhabitants and 75 businesses. The town was the first in Idaho to have its own daily paper and telegraph office and also one of the first to have electricity and telephone services. The town eventually began a decline because of its remote location. Today, Silver City has still about 70 still standing buildings - all privately owned - and is only accessible via a dirt road. The townsite and its environs are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Silver City in Idaho.
